Frequently Asked Questions
Does VibeNote work offline?
Yes — that's the whole point. Recording and transcription happen on your phone using a local Whisper model. No internet required, no audio uploaded to any server by default. Premium adds higher-accuracy cloud transcription as an opt-in extra, but the offline transcript is always saved first.
Which languages does VibeNote support?
The bundled on-device model is English. Premium users get higher-accuracy cloud transcription that auto-detects 50+ languages, plus one-tap translation to 120+ languages so you can keep both versions side by side.
How many AI Chat messages do I get on the free plan?
Free users get 30 AI Chat messages per calendar month — enough to ask serious questions about your notes without us burning through OpenAI quota. The counter resets on the 1st of every month. Premium is unlimited.
How long is the live transcript supposed to take to appear?
On a warm install the first words should appear about 4–6 seconds after you start talking. The very first recording after a fresh install can take a few seconds longer because the AI model needs to unpack itself. If live text never appears at all, check the small status line above the transcript panel — it tells you whether the model is still loading or has failed. If it stays on "Loading model…" for more than 30 seconds, please contact support.
What is the cloud minutes monthly limit?
Premium includes about 20 hours of cloud-enhanced transcription per month. After the limit, recordings keep saving on-device with the free Whisper transcriber — there is never a hard wall, you just lose the cloud quality boost for the rest of the month.
Where are my recordings stored?
Audio and transcripts live on your device. If you sign in and turn on Keep notes on all my devices, your notes mirror to your private user space in our Firebase project so they reach your other devices. Nobody else can read them — not us, not other users.
Is my data ever used to train AI models?
No. Cloud transcription is processed through OpenAI's API under their no-training-on-API-data policy, and translation goes through the same pipeline. We do not sell, share, or use your recordings for any model training.
How do I cancel my Premium subscription?
iPhone / iPad: Open Settings inside VibeNote → tap My subscription → it opens your Apple ID subscription page where you can cancel.
Android: Open Settings inside VibeNote → tap My subscription → it opens Google Play's subscription page.
Your Premium features stay active until the end of the billing period.
How do I delete my account permanently?
Open Settings inside VibeNote, scroll to the Account section, and tap Delete my account. Confirm the dialog and we'll permanently wipe your account, synced notes, and any audio you've uploaded from our servers. Notes that only ever lived on your phone will stay there until you uninstall the app — they were never on our servers in the first place.
Can I edit the transcript and summary?
Yes. Tap any segment in the Transcript tab to edit it. Your edits are preserved if you re-transcribe in the cloud. Summaries are editable inline too — change a word, add a note, anything.
How do flashcards and quizzes work?
Open any note → tap the action menu → Generate flashcards or Generate quiz. AI reads the transcript and pulls out the important terms, definitions, and questions. Flip through cards, take the quiz, share the results.
Will VibeNote drain my battery during long lectures?
Recording itself is very light. Live transcription runs whisper.cpp on your phone's CPU every few seconds, which uses noticeable but not dramatic power — comparable to a video call. For three-hour lectures, plug in or expect the phone to lose about 15–25% over the session.
Why is "Label who is speaking" off by default?
Speaker labelling routes through our cloud diarisation pipeline and is Premium-only. Most students prefer a single transcript block for lectures (one speaker — the professor), so we leave it off by default and you flip it on for seminars, interviews, or panel recordings.
Does VibeNote work in classrooms with no signal?
Yes. Recording, on-device transcription, summaries, custom vocabulary, and flashcard generation from a recorded transcript all work without internet. AI Chat and cloud-quality transcription need a connection.
